At the time of writing, the value of the cryptocurrency on its balance sheet is estimated at $5.37 billion.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2020, MicroStrategy became the first publicly traded <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-becomes-the-first-nasdaq-listed-company-to-invest-part-of-its-capital-in-bitcoin\">to invest part of its equity<\/a> ($250 million) in bitcoin. Later the company&#8217;s board<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-bets-another-175-million-on-bitcoin\"> approved a policy to ramp up investments<\/a> in digital gold using cash reserves.<\/p>\n<p>Following this, CEO Michael Saylor expressed confidence that <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-chief-executive-says-private-firms-will-move-into-bitcoin-in-coming-months\">others would follow its example<\/a>. In the United States, such investments were pursued by <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/square-invests-a-further-170-million-in-bitcoin\">Jack Dorsey&#8217;s Square<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/elon-musks-tesla-invested-1-5-billion-in-bitcoin-the-assets-price-rose-to-44800\">Elon Musk&#8217;s Tesla<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In December, the company issued convertible bonds<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-raises-650-million-for-bitcoin-purchase\"> for $650 million<\/a> to purchase bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>In February the software vendor additionally issued debt securities <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-raises-more-than-1-billion-in-debt-financing-to-buy-bitcoin\"> totaling more than $1 billion<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-buys-more-bitcoin-for-1-026-billion\"> again invested<\/a> the raised funds in cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<p>In March MicroStrategy purchased <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-invests-another-15-million-in-bitcoin\">328 BTC<\/a>, around <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-buys-another-205-btc-at-a-price-below-50000\">205 BTC<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-buys-additional-bitcoin-for-15-million\">262 BTC<\/a>. The firm invested $15 million in digital gold <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-makes-a-further-15-million-investment-in-bitcoin\">in April<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-adds-15-million-to-bitcoin-holdings\">in May<\/a>.
