{"id":47806,"date":"2021-08-17T12:32:50","date_gmt":"2021-08-17T09:32:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=47806"},"modified":"2025-09-01T23:10:02","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T20:10:02","slug":"american-regulators-open-investigation-into-teslas-autopilot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/american-regulators-open-investigation-into-teslas-autopilot\/","title":{"rendered":"American regulators open investigation into Tesla&#8217;s Autopilot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an official investigation into Tesla&#8217;s Autopilot following a series of crashes in which at least 17 people were injured and one person died, CNBC reports.<\/p>\n<p>According to the regulator, since January 2018 there have been 11 crashes in which Tesla vehicles \u201cfound themselves in an emergency situation and subsequently collided with one or more vehicles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the document, most incidents occurred after dark. Many were accompanied by lighting interference created by the flashing lights of emergency vehicles, signal flares or illuminated arrow boards.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p>\u00a0\u201cThe document states that all involved vehicles were on Autopilot or with cruise control engaged at the time of the crashes.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Following the announcement, Tesla&#8217;s stock fell 4.32%. At the time of writing, shares were trading around $686.17.<\/p>\n<p>The report covers roughly 765,000 Tesla vehicles of all models produced between 2014 and 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The federal-level review began several months after the NHTSA and the National Transportation Safety Board announced an investigation into the causes<a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/calls-to-ban-clearview-ai-a-robot-that-thinks-aloud-and-other-ai-news\"> of the Texas crash<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Regulators have also conducted several checks of Tesla&#8217;s Autopilot, including after a Model Y operating in autonomous mode collided with a police car.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\\\"https:\/\/telegram.org\/js\/telegram-widget.js?15\\\" data-telegram-post=\\\"forklogAI\/246\\\" data-width=\\\"100%\\\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Tesla and other manufacturers have repeatedly stated that Autopilot keeps the vehicle at speed and centered in its lane, but does not provide safe operation without a driver at the wheel.
