DeepFaceLive overlays the deepfake both during live broadcasts and during videoconferences, for example, Zoom.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/G_ICRDnJCJM3GaF61TKfKU77IqGUN9Dd199M1vqizPXg_-ClMW49aNv9TJOeo4LjH-HXSH9rLGTKm8ROElpr61u4FBvZz8-6cD0VkLDMwFFI7laXDjb7pz3upYiD6QNlMOmL6Buj\" alt=\"Deepfake reaches Zoom, DeepMind builds universal AI agents, and other AI world news\"\/><figcaption>Example of DeepFaceLive in action. Today it is one of the most popular tools for creating deepfakes.<\/p>\n<p>DeepFaceLive and installation instructions<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/iperov\/DeepFaceLive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> are available<\/a> on GitHub. The program is compatible only with Nvidia GPUs, starting from GeForce GTX 750 and above.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"eu-ai-law\"><strong>AI regulation will cost the EU \u20ac31 billion<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>AI regulation<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.datainnovation.org\/2021-aia-costs.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> will cost<\/a> the European economy \u20ac31 billion over five years and reduce investment in the sector by 20%, according to a report from the Center for Data Innovation.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/PnYv0nWxtuZb4zPuM6Oy1gUpu98P7MmW5sO3MmUY8ye7tJ-NCVyinvZtZihZ33ETOnFDeVmSYB0SkGPPvBzG9h9HDpac8vrLqOLBj743naw5BWMimC05VMbNeOzjTtucIdSKOayV\" alt=\"Investment estimates before and after EU AI regulation\"\/><figcaption>Investment estimates before and after AI regulation in the EU. Data: Center for Data Innovation.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>European small and medium-sized businesses deploying high-risk AI systems will incur compliance costs of up to \u20ac400 000, which would reduce profits by 40%, analysts said.<\/p>\n<p>They also say that if the EU law is enacted, the union will not meet the Digital Decade goals by 2030, which foresee that 75% of European enterprises will use AI.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"nvidia-arm\"><strong>The EU Commission pauses Nvidia-ARM deal<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The European Commission<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/technology\/2021\/07\/24\/brussels-delays-nvidia-sale-force-arm-consider-float\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> paused<\/a> the deal between Nvidia and ARM. On July 26 the regulator went on holiday.<\/p>\n<p>According to media reports, Nvidia did not provide the European Commission with the necessary documents to close the deal, which prevented the regulator from concluding.<\/p>\n<p>A decision by authorities could take six months or more. According to insiders, if the merger delay proves serious, ARM may consider an IPO.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"synchron\"><strong>US approves neural interface trials on humans<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Synchron<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/fda-brain-computer-interface-clinical-trial-synchron-stentrode-190232289.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> has<\/a> received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to conduct neural interface testing on humans.<\/p>\n<p>According to clinical trial results, patients were able to control a computer with their thoughts. They performed tasks, sent text messages, checked online banking, and made purchases.<\/p>\n<p>Implanting the device takes about two hours, the company said. It is inserted through a blood vessel at the base of the neck and guided into the brain.<\/p>\n<p>According to Synchron CEO Thomas Oxley, the device will hit the market within three to five years.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"megafon-eva\"><strong>Megafon launches voice assistant Eva<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The mobile operator Megafon<a href=\"https:\/\/vc.ru\/services\/274154-megafon-zapustil-golosovogo-pomoshchnika-evu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> launched<\/a> the voice assistant Eva, which can answer calls, record and transcribe conversations.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/o8r8TejJ6c1RKQ88Y7SUFo8ndyo_ijrvQnnCLllqSSdfd05SdErTl6HhOm05xghj1_ISKeyEJcfLsy5ewCM8LGSNS_cAu0K2vNNHC9QXyMMh48QZzkechQc7xw3NVcUsyapKQakm\" alt=\"Eva's capabilities\" width=\"646\" height=\"385\"\/><figcaption>Eva&apos;s capabilities. Data: Megafon.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The company said the bot can identify the caller&apos;s source and purpose, sustain a conversation, and send the transcript of the call to the user&apos;s Telegram.<\/p>\n<p>The assistant is available to a limited number of Megafon subscribers in Moscow. In the autumn, Eva will be available to all users, Megafon said.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"novaja-pochta\"><strong>NOVA Poshta tests cargo drone flight between Kyiv and Kharkiv<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Ukrainian logistics company Nova Poshta<a href=\"https:\/\/interfax.com.ua\/news\/economic\/758598.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> tested<\/a> cargo delivery using a drone. In five hours the drone covered 480 km from Kyiv to Kharkiv.<\/p>\n<p>According to company representatives, the drone rose to 300 metres and followed a pre-programmed route. No other logistics company has dared to do so besides Nova Poshta,&#8221; said the company&apos;s CEO Alexander Bulba.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He added that their plans include reducing flight time to three hours and making drone delivery accessible to most customers.<\/p>\n<p>Nova Poshta plans to launch the service commercially in 2022.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tably\"><strong>Canadian startup unveils an app for reading cats&apos; emotions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Canadian company Sylvester.ai<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/feline-okay-app-that-tells-you-if-your-cats-happy-2021-07-27\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> created<\/a> the Tably app, which uses AI to read cats&apos; emotions and determine when they are in pain.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/YVM3mU_vy9wO5EtTKuTuf0ZVG-_oLt0R6F2sHl7INOMDaexzKlCORG4jKAqRMG12I9rmXhAaumhgSzdI8-KJ0exQ6KP_7sieDCwEDL9jjPPNuAenSQcJHDq6gyGqBCUl1aSafHhs\" alt=\"Interface of the Tably app.\"\/><figcaption>Interface of the Tably app. Data: Reuters.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>To assess the animal&apos;s stress, the algorithms determine head and ear position, squinting eyes, muzzle tension, and whisker condition.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dr. Liz Ruehl of the clinic where the program was trained and tested, the app could help young veterinarians gain experience.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"lucasfilm\"><strong>YouTube deepfake creator invited to work at Lucasfilm<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Lucasfilm studio<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/lucasfilm-hires-shamook-054904077.html\"> hired<\/a> the popular YouTuber known as Shamook, who uses deepfake technology to \u201cfix\u201d actors&apos; faces in Hollywood blockbusters.<\/p>\n<p>In late 2020 the creator released several videos about Star Wars. He used neural networks to adjust episodes featuring Princess Leia and Grand Moff Tarkin in the spin-off Rogue One, as well as a snippet with Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"713\" height=\"401\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wrHXA2cSpNU\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Studio executives noticed Shamook&apos;s work and invited him to the role of Senior Facial Animation Artist.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ai-galileo\"><strong>Scientists employ AI to search for extraterrestrial technologies<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A group of scientists<a href=\"https:\/\/thenextweb.com\/news\/gallileo-project-using-ai-to-search-for-alien-technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> are using<\/a> artificial intelligence to search for traces of alien technologies on Earth.<\/p>\n<p>The Galileo Project envisions using a global network of telescopes and astronomical research to search for evidence of extraterrestrial technological civilizations. The team plans to develop algorithms that scan telescope data for alien artifacts.<\/p>\n<p>The project includes researchers from Cambridge, Harvard, Princeton, Caltech, and Stockholm University. It also recruited astronomer Avi Loeb, who in 2019<a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/alien-probe-harvard-astronomer-oumuamua\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> argued<\/a> that the asteroid Oumuamua is an alien probe traveling via solar wind.<\/p>\n<p>The project is funded by private individuals. To date they have donated $1.75 million.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"gpt3-chatbot\"><strong>Canadian using AI recreates image of his late fianc\u00e9e<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Canadian artist Joshua Barbo<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/projects\/2021\/jessica-simulation-artificial-intelligence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> recreated<\/a> the image of his fianc\u00e9e who died eight years ago with the help of artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>He used Project December, built on the GPT-3 language model, and constructed a special chatbot.
