{"id":46099,"date":"2021-07-14T16:50:21","date_gmt":"2021-07-14T13:50:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=46099"},"modified":"2025-09-01T14:39:51","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T11:39:51","slug":"french-regulator-proposes-giving-esma-oversight-powers-over-the-crypto-industry-in-the-eu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/french-regulator-proposes-giving-esma-oversight-powers-over-the-crypto-industry-in-the-eu\/","title":{"rendered":"French regulator proposes giving ESMA oversight powers over the crypto industry in the EU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The French financial markets regulator (AMF) has proposed granting ESMA, the European Securities and Markets Authority, powers to oversee the crypto industry as part of a package of reforms to strengthen financial regulation in the EU.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p>\u201cGranting ESMA powers to supervise public offerings of crypto-assets in the EU and providers of crypto-services would create clear economies for all national regulators and bring together expertise for the European good,\u201d the document says.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The AMF said the aim of the proposals was to endow ESMA with broader powers to achieve harmonised regulation and to ensure a single set of rules.<\/p>\n<p>Back in June 2021, Fran\u00e7ois Villeroy de Galhau, governor of the Bank of France, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/frances-central-bank-chief-says-europe-has-one-to-two-years-to-implement-crypto-rules\">urged the EU to make cryptocurrency regulation a priority<\/a> due to the risk of weakening the euro&#8217;s international role.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, ESMA <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/european-regulator-warns-of-bitcoin-investment-risks\">warned<\/a> of the risk of losing all funds when investing in digital assets.<\/p>\n<p style=\\\" margin: 12px auto 6px auto;
