The Israeli National Bureau for Counter-Terrorism Financing ordered<\/a> the seizure of 84 cryptocurrency wallets allegedly controlled by Hamas militants.<\/p>\n

According to authorities, these addresses received substantial funds in Bitcoin, Tether (USDT) and Dogecoin (DOGE) as donations.<\/p>\n

According to Elliptic, the total volume of transfers amounted to $7.7 million, of which $4.1 million was in USDT, $3.4 million in Bitcoin, and $40,235 in the meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin.<\/p>\n

“Some addresses are part of larger services, and not all of these funds may be linked to terrorism,”<\/em> the report says.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In an interview with The Block<\/a>, Elliptic co-founder Tom Robinson explained that among the identified addresses there are some belonging to brokers and others used to fund deposits on Bitcoin exchanges. He declined to specify them.<\/p>\n

According to estimates by the Institute for International Policy on Counterterrorism, one Hamas wallet received a total of 3,370 BTC from October 2015 through July 2019, worth about $29 million at the time.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Whitestream analysts found that Hamas used several Bitcoin addresses to collect donations, one of which was hosted on Coinbase.<\/p>\n
