The State Inspectorate for Control in the Sphere of Informatization and Telecommunications of Uzbekistan restricted the operation<\/a> of a number of social networks due to violations of the personal data law.<\/p>\n

Media say that disruptions began affecting Twitter, TikTok, VKontakte, and also Skype.<\/p>\n

In the regulator’s notice, the blocked social networks were added to the ‘register of violators of data-subject rights’, though their names were not disclosed.<\/p>\n

Use of the services placed in the registry will be restricted until the identified deficiencies are addressed.<\/p>\n

In January, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed an amendment to the law<\/a> “On Personal Data.” It obliges services to store residents’ personal data on technical means physically located in the country.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Roskomnadzor demanded a response<\/a> from Google, Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp to the previously sent request about localising Russian users\u2019 data on the territory of the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n
