Nebraska state Senator Carol Blood has backed a bill to study the potential role of blockchain in agriculture.<\/p>\n
According to the document, distributed ledger technology is to be used to track the origin of products\u2014from farms to store shelves.<\/p>\n
The bill’s author proposes monitoring production conditions\u2014soil quality, equipment, weather and other factors\u2014using blockchain. The technology would also be used to certify organic food products.<\/p>\n
As part of the study, officials will assess blockchain as a means for asset exchanges and for the storage of products and equipment.<\/p>\n
Nebraska is predominantly an agricultural state, where in 2019 farms and ranches accounted for more than 90% of the state’s land area, according to government data.<\/p>\n
