The Inner Mongolia Reform and Development Commission (DRC) has created<\/a> a platform on which residents can report activity related to cryptocurrency mining in the autonomous region.<\/p>\n

Information can be submitted via the hotline, by mail, or at the electronic address.<\/p>\n

Authorities aim to curb miners who, under the guise of a data centre, exploit tax, land or energy incentives.<\/p>\n

With such a step the Commission hopes to align with the parameters of the national programme to reduce CO2 emissions. In 2019 through the first half of 2020, Inner Mongolia was<\/a> the only province that did not achieve this.<\/p>\n

The proposal followed after the DRC announced in March 2021 about the closure<\/a> of crypto-mining farms by the end of April. The decision prompted miners to relocate capacity to other regions of China.<\/p>\n

According to Coin Metrics, on May 18 the Bitcoin hash rate continued its sharp decline, falling to 124.5 EH\/s.<\/p>\n

As of May 17, the overall hash rate of the Bitcoin network fell<\/a> by 20%. The cause was power outages in Sichuan province caused by low rainfall and coal shortages.<\/p>\n

In April 2021 the hash rate sharply decreased<\/a> due to electricity outages during safety checks following explosions and floods at Chinese coal mines.<\/p>\n
