{"id":4269,"date":"2017-09-05T12:05:50","date_gmt":"2017-09-05T09:05:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.media\/?p=4269"},"modified":"2017-09-06T14:02:03","modified_gmt":"2017-09-06T11:02:03","slug":"russias-central-bank-issues-cryptocurrency-risks-warning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/russias-central-bank-issues-cryptocurrency-risks-warning\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia\u2019s Central Bank Issues Cryptocurrency Risks Warning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Bank of Russia believes admitting cryptocurrencies or any other financial instruments associated with digital currencies to trading and turnover in Russia\u2019s clearing infrastructure is premature.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The statement by the regulator\u2019s press office confirms its position dating back to 2014 concerning virtual currencies.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Russia\u2019s Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/forklog.media\/russia-to-ban-selling-bitcoin-to-individuals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suggested<\/a>\u00a0that rather than a currency, bitcoin should be regulated as an asset and should be restricted to \u201cqualified investors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Most cryptocurrency operations are beyond the legal terrain of Russia and most other countries, the Bank reminded.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cCryptocurrencies are not backed and not guaranteed by the Bank of Russia,\u201d <\/strong>the release reads.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The regulator believes that the anonymous nature of cryptocurrencies might involve \u201cindividuals and legal entities into illegal activities, which includes money laundering and financing of terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aside from that, exchange rate fluctuations and technological risks may result in financial losses, the regulator stated.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cConsidering the high risks inherent in turnover and utilization of cryptocurrencies, the Bank of Russia believes admitting cryptocurrencies and any financial instruments denominated in or associated with cryptocurrencies to turnover and usage at organized trading platforms, as well as in Russia\u2019s clearing infrastructure, is premature,\u201d <\/strong>the statement reads.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Bank of Russia also noted that it is cooperating with relevant federal authorities to develop the approach towards regulation of cryptocurrencies in Russia.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;There are technological risks inherent in issuance and turnover of cryptocurrencies, as well as risks related to assignment of rights to virtual currencies.
