{"id":42308,"date":"2021-05-12T10:06:52","date_gmt":"2021-05-12T07:06:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=42308"},"modified":"2025-08-30T22:38:54","modified_gmt":"2025-08-30T19:38:54","slug":"sec-cautions-on-bitcoin-futures-as-highly-speculative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/sec-cautions-on-bitcoin-futures-as-highly-speculative\/","title":{"rendered":"SEC cautions on bitcoin futures as &#8216;highly speculative&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/news\/public-statement\/staff-statement-investing-bitcoin-futures-market\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u043f\u0440\u0435\u0434\u0443\u043f\u0440\u0435\u0434\u0438\u043b\u0430<\/a> investors in mutual funds that hold bitcoin futures about the risks associated with derivatives.<\/p>\n<p>While such instruments are becoming increasingly popular, they remain based on an asset that is &#8220;extremely speculative&#8221;, volatile and traded on a lightly regulated market, according to the SEC&#8217;s Division of Investment Management.<\/p>\n<p>The agency added that investors should review the information disclosed by the fund and determine an acceptable level of risk for themselves before investing.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cInvestors&#8217; protection and compliance with regulatory requirements for these funds is the staff&#8217;s top priority,\u201d the SEC said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The regulator will also study, based on the experience of investors in bitcoin futures funds, whether the market can support an ETF.<\/p>\n<p>In ongoing monitoring, staff expect to:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>analyse the liquidity and depth of the cryptocurrency futures market;<\/li>\n<li>assess the ability of funds to liquidate positions in it as needed to meet daily redemption requirements, and the effectiveness of risk management;<\/li>\n<li>study asset valuations by the funds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The statement also notes that it reflects the views of the staff of the Division of Investment Management and has no legal force.<\/p>\n<p>In April, the U.S. Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/gary-gensler-named-chair-of-the-sec\">confirmed<\/a> Gary Gensler to lead the SEC.
