Qualcomm, Google and Microsoft opposed the deal. They fear the new owner would offer unfavourable terms.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\\\"wp-block-heading\\\" id=\\\"evrokomisija-predstavila-recomendatsii-po-regulirovaniju-ii\\\"><strong>The European Commission unveiled AI regulation recommendations<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The European Commission<a href=\\\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_21_1682\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\\\"> \u043f\u0440\u0435\u0434\u0441\u0442\u0430\u0432\u0438\u043b\u0430<\/a> new rules governing AI in the European Union, including a ban on most surveillance technologies used on citizens.<\/p>\n<p>The authors proposed banning applications that enable authorities to conduct social scoring or exploit children.<\/p>\n<p>For high-risk AI used in hiring, maintaining critical infrastructure, migration, and law-enforcement needs, the Commission proposed strict limitations.<\/p>\n<p>Penalties could reach up to 6% of global turnover or \u20ac30 million. The new rules require approval by the European Parliament and EU member states.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\\\"wp-block-heading\\\" id=\\\"ssha-ftc\\\"><strong>The U.S. regulator threatens firms using biased AI<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The U.S. Federal Trade Commission<a href=\\\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/news-events\/blogs\/business-blog\/2021\/04\/aiming-truth-fairness-equity-your-companys-use-ai\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\\\"> urged<\/a> companies to pay close attention to the use of sexist and racist algorithms. Otherwise the regulator threatened to intervene.<\/p>\n<p>The agency&#8217;s in-house counsel Eliza Gillson noted that the law prohibits the sale or use of algorithms that could lead to discrimination on the basis of race, colour, religion, national origin, sex, marital status or age.<\/p>\n<p>Gillson reminded that distorting algorithm tests that check for discrimination violates federal law.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\\\"wp-block-heading\\\" id=\\\"tiktok-uk\\\"><strong>UK sues TikTok over child facial-recognition<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>TikTok<a href=\\\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/technology-56815480\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\\\"> was accused<\/a> of illegally collecting facial data and other confidential information from British children.<\/p>\n<p>Former Children&#8217;s Commissioner Anne Longfield said the platform illegally collected personal information from 3.5 million underage users since 2018.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok said it does not agree with the allegations and intends to defend its position.<\/p>\n<p>If found liable, the company could pay more than \u00a33 billion in compensation.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\\\"wp-block-heading\\\" id=\\\"wse-2\\\"><strong>Supercomputer maker unveils AI chip with 850k cores<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Cerebras<a href=\\\"https:\/\/www.anandtech.com\/show\/16626\/cerebras-unveils-wafer-scale-engine-two-wse2-26-trillion-transistors-100-yield\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\\\"> unveiled<\/a> the second-generation Wafer Scale Engine (WSE-2) processor designed for machine learning and AI workloads.<\/p>\n<p>It contains 2.6 trillion transistors, 850,000 cores, 40 GB of SRAM buffering with a bandwidth of 20 Pbit\/s. They then deliberately asked the robot to violate them by placing a napkin in the wrong spot.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p>\u00abThis situation upsets me.
