American retailer GameStop \u0440\u0430\u0437\u043c\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0438\u043b\u0430<\/a> vacancy for a security analyst who understands blockchain, cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).<\/p>\n

The role requires a bachelor’s degree and more than five years of relevant experience. GameStop noted that the candidate must be reachable and able to take calls outside normal working hours.<\/p>\n

Founder of the Canadian recruitment firm FinTech Recruiters, Nako Mbelle, in comments to Decrypt<\/a> noted that the analytics position at GameStop could signal the company’s intention to enter the NFT market.<\/p>\n

“This position looks as if they are building something serious, as they are considering security,” said Mbelle.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In January 2021, GameStop’s stock on the New York Stock Exchange reached $347. This was preceded by a call on the r\/WallStreetBets subreddit not to let the big players sink the company.<\/p>\n

GameStop\u2019s rally proved costly for major short sellers, notably for Melvin Capital\u2014the hedge fund lost 53%<\/a> of its capital in January.<\/p>\n

Against the stock pump, the cryptocurrency-friendly platform Robinhood restricted trading in several assets. This provoked discontent among authorities and investors, who suspected the service of colluding with Melvin Capital and market maker Citadel.<\/p>\n

Later, co-founder Vlad Tenev, in a conversation with Tesla founder Elon Musk, explained this decision<\/a> as due to “an unprecedented load” and a desire to protect users. He also rejected reports of collusion with large players.<\/p>\n

On February 18, the heads of Robinhood, Citadel, Melvin Capital and Reddit \u0434\u0430\u043b\u0438 \u043f\u043e\u043a\u0430\u0437\u0430\u043d\u0438\u044f<\/a> at congressional hearings in the United States.<\/p>\n
