This is why Bitcoin mining is regarded as a dirty endeavour, Suarez said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Mayor Suarez, the United States is prepared to provide large Bitcoin miners with access to renewable energy sources. He is convinced that America should mine more digital gold, including for reasons of national security and environmental protection.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p>We have nuclear energy, and with that, clean energy that is virtually unrestricted,<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index from <a href=\\\"https:\/\/digiconomist.net\/bitcoin-energy-consumption\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\\\">Digiconomist<\/a>, on March 28 the figure hit a record high: annual consumption reached 89.9 TWh.<\/p>\n<p>According to analysts&#8217; estimates, cryptocurrency production annually <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/bank-of-america-bitcoins-only-value-is-its-price-rise\">emits around 60 million tonnes of carbon dioxide<\/a>, and each $1 billion bitcoin purchase is equivalent to the annual emissions of 1.2 million cars.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, in late 2020, Suarez said he was open to studying the possibility of investing 1% of the city&#8217;s budget reserves in Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>In February, he spoke about the possibility of <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/miami-mayor-aims-to-allow-salaries-to-be-paid-in-bitcoin\">paying salaries to public employees<\/a> in the first cryptocurrency.
