This was reported by TASS, <a href=\"https:\/\/tass.ru\/ekonomika\/10978989?utm_source=yxnews&#038;utm_medium=desktop&#038;utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fyandex.ru%2Fnews%2Fsearch%3Ftext%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> German Neglyad, deputy director of Rosfinmonitoring.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIn Russia, besides Bitcoin, Ethereum and Monero are also popular for criminal purposes in general, not only for financing terrorism,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Neglyad, the agency records facts of illicit activity involving digital assets in cooperation with financial intelligence divisions of foreign states.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cRosfinmonitoring has about a hundred agreements, including with European countries,\u201d he clarified.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On the basis of these observations, the agency opened several criminal cases.<\/p>\n<p>German Neglyad added that Rosfinmonitoring, together with banks, tracks operations exchanging cryptocurrencies for rubles:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cBanks have already started paying attention to the exchange operations of virtual assets into hard currency; they are already evaluating them and informing us about these operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Since October 2021, Rosfinmonitoring and the Bank of Russia will introduce a separate code for suspicious cryptocurrency exchange operations to \u201cguide traditional financial institutions on this problem,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in February, Rosfinmonitoring, together with law enforcement and the Academy of Sciences, developed a service that <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/rosfinmonitoring-develops-service-to-track-cryptocurrency-transactions\">will allow tracking cryptocurrency transactions<\/a> and identify their ultimate beneficial owner.<\/p>\n<p>From January 1, 2021, the Russian Federation&#8217;s law \u201cOn Digital Financial Assets\u201d came into force, prohibiting the use of cryptocurrencies to pay for goods and services.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, the total volume of cryptocurrency payments on the darknet amounted to $1.7 billion. <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/russia-and-ukraine-lead-darknet-cryptocurrency-transaction-volumes\">Russia, the United States and Ukraine ranked among the top three<\/a> by turnover of funds on the black market.<\/p>\n<p>Subscribe to ForkLog news on Telegram: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/forklogfeed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ForkLog Feed<\/a> \u2014 the full feed of news, <a href=\"https:\/\/telegram.me\/forklog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ForkLog<\/a> \u2014 the most important news and polls.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bitcoin, Ethereum and Monero are the most popular cryptocurrencies among criminals in Russia.
