American authorities plan to conduct a series of cyberattacks on Russian systems in response to last year’s breach of multiple government agencies in the United States, which investigators attribute to Russian hackers. The New York Times<\/span><\/a> reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to reports, the attacks will be covert to outsiders but evident to Russia’s security services and intelligence. It is expected that the United States will take its first steps within the next three weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n

The United States decided to take countermeasures after <\/span>the breach of numerous American government agencies<\/span><\/a> and private companies, which became known last year. It immediately raised suspicions of Russian hackers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The attackers managed to carry out the attack through compromised updates from the SolarWinds software vendor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Microsoft later said that it has <\/span>evidence of Russia’s involvement in the breach<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
