Performance artist Petr Davydchenko opened<\/span> auction<\/span><\/a> for the sale of <\/span>a non-fungible token (NFT)<\/span>, in which he recorded <\/span>a looping video of a live bat in his mouth outside the doors of the European Parliament.<\/span><\/p>\n

Starting price \u2014 2.5 WETH (~$4100). The auction on the OpenSea platform will run until 12:52 MSK on February 27.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the video, a tattoo on Davydchenko’s forehead bears the name of one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical corporations. According to the artist, this was his way to draw public attention to health-care issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

EU legislation provides a fine for \u201cintentional harm to animal life\u201d of \u20ac1,500 ($1,820). In case of \u201cacts of cruelty\u201d or \u201cserious injuries\u201d the punishment rises to \u20ac30,000 ($36,400) and may lead to a prison sentence of up to two years.<\/span><\/p>\n

On OpenSea, in the auction description, a native of the closed town Arzamas-16 Davydchenko stated that such performances give him \u201cmeans of livelihood.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
