They accused the company of driving their son to suicide.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The trader did not have a steady income and used his own savings to trade on the platform. He began trading options, and in June 2020 received a notification of an account negative balance of $730,000.<\/p>\n<p>In the same month, a relative published a screenshot of Alex&#8217;s account on Twitter.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"twitter-tweet\\\">\n<p dir=\\\"ltr\\\" lang=\\\"en\\\">I saw <a href=\\\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RobinhoodApp?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\\\">@RobinhoodApp<\/a> response and can confirm they did reach out. In an interview with <a href=\\\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/alex-kearns-robinhood-trader-suicide-wrongful-death-suit\/\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"nofollow noopener\\\">CBS News<\/a>, Alex&#8217;s parents said that before his death he had unsuccessfully tried to contact customer support.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHe decided that he had ruined his life\u201d, said Alex&#8217;s father.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The platform did not inform the user that there were options on his account that more than covered the liabilities.
