{"id":35830,"date":"2021-02-04T10:14:32","date_gmt":"2021-02-04T08:14:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=35830"},"modified":"2025-08-29T03:11:31","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T00:11:31","slug":"russias-digital-ministry-proposes-lifting-geolocation-data-from-telecoms-secrecy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/russias-digital-ministry-proposes-lifting-geolocation-data-from-telecoms-secrecy\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia&#8217;s digital ministry proposes lifting geolocation data from telecoms secrecy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation has drafted a bill that would lift data on the location of mobile phones from the protection of communications secrecy. <a href=\"https:\/\/tass.ru\/ekonomika\/10618105\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reports<\/a> TASS.<\/p>\n<p>According to a representative of the ministry, it would enable rapid organisation of searches for missing people.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cEvery year tens of thousands of people go missing in the country. Operators can provide service information, including the coordinates of the missing citizens\u2019 devices.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Currently, a citizen\u2019s communications secrecy is protected by Article 63 of the Law on Communications. Under it, data may be disclosed to third parties or state bodies only by court order.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed amendments would allow access to these data without a court decision \u2013 on request from the agencies carrying out operational-search activities.
