The Torrey town authorities and the Greenidge Generation hybrid power plant, a bitcoin miner, have been named as defendants in a lawsuit filed in the New York State Supreme Court by several environmental organizations.<\/p>\n

Greenidge Generation is located in Dresden, a town adjacent to Torrey, and uses about 7,000 miners from Atlas Holding. As of March 2020, the plant generated $50,000 per day.<\/p>\n
According to Fingerlakes1<\/a>, Greenidge Generation submitted to the Torrey authorities an application to build four facilities to house additional mining equipment near one of the Finger Lakes.<\/p>\n Three environmental organizations and more than 20 residents of Torrey accused the local administration of violating state laws. In their view, officials downplayed environmental impacts and approved the project without a full environmental impact assessment.<\/p>\n The plaintiffs fear the plant will discharge warm water into the lake and harm wildlife.
