{"id":33364,"date":"2020-12-14T19:57:28","date_gmt":"2020-12-14T17:57:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=33364"},"modified":"2025-08-28T13:26:53","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T10:26:53","slug":"peter-schiff-criticises-microstrategy-ceo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/peter-schiff-criticises-microstrategy-ceo\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter Schiff criticises MicroStrategy CEO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bitcoin-sceptic and gold bug Peter Schiff criticized MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor&#8217;s decision to publicly announce in advance plans to buy cryptocurrency with $650 million raised by the company.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"twitter-tweet\\\" data-lang=\\\"en\\\">\n<p dir=\\\"ltr\\\" lang=\\\"en\\\">Since <a href=\\\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/michael_saylor?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\\\">@michael_saylor<\/a> made the mistake of publicly announcing his $650 million Bitcoin buy in advance, traders can buy first, pushing up the price of <a href=\\\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Bitcoin?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\\\">#Bitcoin<\/a> now so they can sell later at a higher price, potentially leaving Mircrostrategy shareholders as the ultimate bagholders.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Peter Schiff (@PeterSchiff) <a href=\\\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeterSchiff\/status\/1338127509968343042?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\\\">December 13, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\\\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\\\" charset=\\\"utf-8\\\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>According to Euro Pacific Capital&#8217;s global strategist, traders could buy Bitcoin ahead of MicroStrategy to push up the price, and then sell at an even higher price. A potential market reversal would wipe out all of the company&#8217;s shareholders&#8217; income.<\/p>\n<p>Schiff noted that the gold market is much larger and more liquid than Bitcoin&#8217;s, and a statement similar to what Saylor made would not affect the price of the precious metal. However, buyers of the asset typically keep their plans secret, not announcing them publicly, Schiff emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>MicroStrategy initially <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-to-raise-400-million-for-additional-bitcoin-investments\">announced plans<\/a> to issue convertible senior notes totaling $400 million with a maturity in 2025. The proceeds were earmarked for investing in Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>Then the company <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-raises-convertible-bond-offering-to-550-million\">increased<\/a> its target amount to $550 million, and the final size of the debt offering <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-raises-650-million-for-bitcoin-purchase\">surpassed<\/a> it by $100 million.<\/p>\n<p>In August MicroStrategy became the first Nasdaq-listed company <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/microstrategy-becomes-the-first-nasdaq-listed-company-to-invest-part-of-its-capital-in-bitcoin\">to convert<\/a> part of its capital into Bitcoin.
