Kraken, the exchange, has allocated $150,000 for the first grant recipient.<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Hello world!<\/p>\n<p>Today we launch Brink, a totally independent nonprofit organization to fund and support open source Bitcoin protocol development. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vDLSiavaUP\">pic.twitter.com\/vDLSiavaUP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Brink (@bitcoinbrink) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bitcoinbrink\/status\/1331205950032764928?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 24, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Initial funding was provided by investors John Pfeffer and Xapo&#8217;s CEO Wences Casares.<\/p>\n<p>Also, financial support for the initiative will come from Square Crypto, led by Jack Dorsey; the Gemini exchange; and the Human Rights Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The Brink founders said their operating model would increase decentralization of Bitcoin development and strengthen the ecosystem of the first cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<p>Among the project&#8217;s key features:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The board of directors will assess grant applicants based on the history of their contributions and their potential. Recipients will have no obligations to other organizations or individuals.<\/li>\n<li>Recipients of fellowships will receive mentorship and training for a year.<\/li>\n<li>Sponsors will be assured that their donations are used effectively, without the need to undergo a burdensome process of due diligence, evaluation and administration.<\/li>\n<li>Donors may be eligible for tax benefits on their donations if permitted by U.S. authorities.
