On July 30, Canon’s cloud servers were hit by ransomware. Hackers are extorting cryptocurrency under the threat of releasing user data.<\/p>\n

According to Bleeping Computer<\/a>, the attack affected Canon’s email, the Microsoft Teams platform, the company’s US site, and other internal applications. In total, the ransomware impacted 24 domains associated with the company.<\/p>\n

Data, photos and other important user documents totaling 10 terabytes were encrypted.<\/p>\n

If Canon does not meet the attackers’ terms within seven days, they threaten to publish all files online.<\/p>\n

The ransom amount and number of encrypted devices were not disclosed.<\/p>\n

Initially, the outlet suggested that the attack was organized by the Maze hacker group. However, its representatives denied involvement.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Garmin, the smartwatch maker, paid<\/a> a multi-million-dollar ransom to decrypt the files.<\/p>\n

The attackers targeted the company’s internal infrastructure with the WastedLocker ransomware and demanded $10 million in cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n
