{"id":26858,"date":"2020-08-04T23:41:03","date_gmt":"2020-08-04T20:41:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=26858"},"modified":"2025-08-26T17:06:21","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T14:06:21","slug":"sberbank-considers-issuing-a-ruble-backed-stablecoin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/sberbank-considers-issuing-a-ruble-backed-stablecoin\/","title":{"rendered":"Sberbank considers issuing a ruble-backed stablecoin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sberbank could issue a ruble-backed stablecoin for settling other digital financial assets, Kommersant reports citing remarks by Sergey Popov, head of the Transactional Business division.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Perhaps we can issue, on the basis of the law that was enacted, a token that we can peg to the ruble \u2014 such a ruble-backed stablecoin that could become a basis, a settlement instrument for some other digital financial assets,&#8221; Popov said (cited by RIA Novosti).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Such a possibility will be provided to Sberbank by the law &#8220;On Digital Financial Assets,&#8221; which President Vladimir Putin signed last week.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"Dr6hfhWrt9\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/putin-signs-law-on-digital-financial-assets-dfa\">Putin signed the law &#8216;On Digital Financial Assets&#8217;<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"Putin signed the law 'On Digital Financial Assets' \u2014 ForkLog\" src=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/news\/putin-podpisal-zakon-o-tsifrovyh-finansovyh-aktivah\/embed#?secret=v2d0YM1Uqo#?secret=Dr6hfhWrt9\" data-secret=\"Dr6hfhWrt9\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The law defines a digital asset (tokens and stablecoins) as the right to a monetary claim or instrument for exercising rights in securities, however it bans the payment for goods or services in cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n<p>Read more about the law here, here and here.
