It is headed by Laura D\u2019Allaird and comprises approximately 30 specialists.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cUnder Laura\u2019s leadership, this new unit will complement the work of the <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/hester-peirce-to-lead-secs-cryptocurrency-task-force\">Crypto Assets Task Force<\/a> led by Commissioner Hester Peirce. Importantly, the reorganization will also allow the SEC to prudently utilize enforcement resources,\u201d stated Acting Chairman Mark Uyeda.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the statement, CETU will tackle misconduct related to securities in several priority areas:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>fraud involving new technologies such as AI, blockchain, and crypto assets;<\/li>\n<li>use of social media, the dark web, or fake websites to perpetrate scams;<\/li>\n<li>hacks aimed at obtaining significant non-public information;<\/li>\n<li>takeovers of retail brokerage accounts;<\/li>\n<li>compliance by regulated entities with security rules and norms, as well as disclosure of relevant information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe unit will root out those who seek to exploit innovation, harming investors and diminishing trust in new technologies,\u201d Uyeda emphasized.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Back in February, the SEC abandoned the promotion of the \u201cdealer rule\u201d for participants in the crypto industry.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission also agreed to pause its legal proceedings with Binance for 60 days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The SEC has established a Cybersecurity and Emerging Technologies Unit (CETU) to combat cybercrime and protect retail investors from fraud in the realm of new technologies.
