{"id":21342,"date":"2025-02-20T13:29:25","date_gmt":"2025-02-20T11:29:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/sec-to-review-proposal-for-staking-in-ethereum-etf\/"},"modified":"2025-02-20T13:29:25","modified_gmt":"2025-02-20T11:29:25","slug":"sec-to-review-proposal-for-staking-in-ethereum-etf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/sec-to-review-proposal-for-staking-in-ethereum-etf\/","title":{"rendered":"SEC to Review Proposal for Staking in Ethereum ETF"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-text-wrappers-keypoints article_keypoints\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cboe has proposed to the SEC to include staking in an Ethereum ETF.<\/li>\n<li>The regulator will review applications for listing instruments based on digital assets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><span data-descr=\"Chicago Board Options Exchange\" class=\"old_tooltip\">CBOE<\/span> BZX has submitted a proposal to the <span data-descr=\"U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission\" class=\"old_tooltip\">SEC<\/span> via form 19b-4, requesting approval for staking in a spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) based on Ethereum from 21Shares.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">SEC has *acknowledged* Cboe\u2019s 19b-4 filing seeking approval of staking in 21Shares Core Ethereum ETF\u2026<\/p>\n<p>No surprise, but nice to see progress. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DoM0HbmSse\">pic.twitter.com\/DoM0HbmSse<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Nate Geraci (@NateGeraci) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NateGeraci\/status\/1892359171481194625?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 19, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>If approved, 21Shares Core Ethereum will begin generating additional profits, which could potentially be directed to investors.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative emerged amid the <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/hester-peirce-to-lead-secs-cryptocurrency-task-force\">launch of a cryptocurrency task force<\/a> at the SEC.<\/p>\n<p>The priorities of the structure are to determine which assets are not securities and to create a clear procedure for registering new tokens.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cThe sponsor\u2019s staking-related activities on behalf of the Trust will not constitute <\/em><em>DPoS<\/em><em> and will not be part of a staking-as-a-service offering,\u201d<\/em> the document states.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Previously, the <span data-descr=\"New York Stock Exchange\" class=\"old_tooltip\">NYSE<\/span> Arca <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblock.co\/post\/341159\/nyse-asks-sec-to-allow-staking-for-grayscales-ethereum-etfs\">submitted<\/a> a similar application for Ethereum-based exchange-traded funds from Grayscale.<\/p>\n<p>The former SEC leadership regarded PoS tokens as \u201csecurities.\u201d This led to the exclusion of the staking option from proposals to launch ETH-ETFs.<\/p>\n<p>Known as \u201ccrypto mom,\u201d SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce suggested a change in the agency\u2019s stance following a change in its composition.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1219\" height=\"686\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UQVjRqy3wjM\" title=\"SEC Commissioner Peirce Hints at 'Day One' Pro-Crypto SEC Shift\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>According to the latest SEC 13F filings, in the fourth quarter, the share of institutional investors in Ethereum ETFs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblock.co\/post\/341151\/bitcoin-etfs-maintain-market-lead-as-ethereum-etfs-see-surge-in-institutional-adoption-13f-filings-show\">increased from 4.8% to 14.5%<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SEC to Review Applications for Listing Digital Asset-Based Instruments<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Nasdaq has submitted to the SEC <a href=\"https:\/\/listingcenter.nasdaq.com\/assets\/rulebook\/nasdaq\/filings\/SR-NASDAQ-2025-016.pdf\">a proposal<\/a> to add Nasdaq Rule 5712, allowing the listing and trading of so-called \u201cdigital asset-based investment interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This includes:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>securities issued by organizations that hold cryptocurrencies \u2014 for example, companies or funds holding Bitcoin or Ethereum;<\/li>\n<li>investment products based on commodities \u2014 products related to cash, derivatives, or other sources tied to digital assets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is also proposed to transfer the listing and trading of the Hashdex Nasdaq Crypto Index US ETF, registered under another rule, in accordance with Nasdaq Rule 5712.<\/p>\n<p>The statement indicates that the proposal aims to change the investment objective and strategy of the structure.<\/p>\n<p>Hashdex Nasdaq Crypto Index US ETF invests in Bitcoin and Ether but may hold other assets depending on the U.S. regulatory framework.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative emerged amid <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/cboe-proposes-rule-change-for-ark-21shares-btc-etf-and-eth-etf\">SEC plans to change cryptocurrency regulation<\/a>. Specifically, the agency intends to clarify which digital assets are securities.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Nasdaq <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/nasdaq-to-list-options-on-blackrocks-spot-bitcoin-etf\">launched trading<\/a> of options on BlackRock\u2019s spot BTC-ETF (IBIT).<\/p>\n<p>In less than two months, open interest in IBIT derivatives <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/open-interest-in-options-on-blackrocks-ibit-nears-half-of-deribits\">reached<\/a> half the level on Deribit.<\/p>\n<p>In January, Nasdaq, on behalf of BlackRock, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/nasdaq-proposes-rule-change-for-blackrocks-bitcoin-etf\">filed an application<\/a> to change the structure of the instrument to allow asset redemption in kind.<\/p>\n<p>A similar proposal <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/cboe-proposes-rule-change-for-ark-21shares-btc-etf-and-eth-etf\">followed<\/a> from CBOE on behalf of ARK Invest and 21Shares regarding Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cboe has proposed to the SEC to include staking in an Ethereum ETF.
