Everything is still raw, experimental, but there&#8217;s an underlying understanding from this involved that there is massive potential.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s likely that the current projects won&#8217;t have the same model\/product as they will\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Andrew Kang (@Rewkang) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Rewkang\/status\/1860722553326850398?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 24, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cEverything is still raw, experimental, but there&#8217;s an understanding that [in DeSci] there is massive potential,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Kang believes that future DeSci protocols will not employ the same models and products as today, but this is the essence of <span data-descr=\"process of gradual improvement\" class=\"old_tooltip\">iterative<\/span> development:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis happened with Maker, <a href=\"https:\/\/hub.forklog.com\/proekt-dlya-sozdaniya-sinteticheskih-aktivov-synthetix\/\">Synthetix<\/a>, and Aave, which were clumsy and small in 2019 but became major protocols.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>At that time, the DeFi industry, much like DeSci now, was in its early stages. The potential of decentralized finance began to unfold by 2020: the number of users, projects, and the volume of value locked in smart contracts grew exponentially compared to 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Among projects in the decentralized science sector, the founder of Mechanism Capital highlighted three of the most interesting:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>BIO Protocol with a platform for managing and funding research through DAOs and tokenization;<\/li>\n<li>Pump Science, where tokens tied to experimental life-extension drugs are sold;<\/li>\n<li>GLP1, which raises funds for research on the GLP-1 hormone, a regulator of hunger and digestion in the human body.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DeSci projects, akin to the <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/tokens-for-noise-and-a-web3-alternative-to-google-maps-the-most-interesting-depin-projects\">DePIN<\/a> sector, utilize blockchain tools to organize <a href=\"https:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%D0%93%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B6%D0%B4%D0%B0%D0%BD%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B0%D1%8F_%D0%BD%D0%B0%D1%83%D0%BA%D0%B0\">citizen science<\/a>\u2014collaborative research involving the general public, including those without formal academic training.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, Vitalik Buterin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qtBsL90-J_4\">described<\/a> DeSci as a set of ideas addressing the question: \u201chow decentralized technologies can improve science.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to CoinGecko, the current capitalization of the DeSci industry is approximately $1.2 billion.
