This view was expressed by former Google China head Kai-Fu Lee, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/09\/11\/chinas-ai-models-lag-their-us-counterparts-by-6-to-9-months-says-former-head-of-google-china.html\">CNBC<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The discussion centers on large language models (LLM), which are trained on vast amounts of data and capable of processing and generating text, images, and video. Less advanced Chinese neural networks may trail their American counterparts by approximately 15 months, Lee noted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI would predict that by the beginning of next year, applications in China will spread much faster than in the US,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the author of the book \u201cAI Superpowers: China, Silicon Valley, and the New World Order,\u201d China is inevitably poised to create the \u201cworld\u2019s best applications\u201d with artificial intelligence. Whether these will be developed by large or small companies remains unknown.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lee believes it will take five to eight years before consumer applications based on generative AI reach a new level and transform into a unified \u201csuper app\u201d capable of performing multiple tasks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The industry will require entirely new devices instead of existing smartphones, which are always on and ready to work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In August, Alibaba <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/alibabas-new-ai-models-surpass-gpt-4o-in-mathematics\">launched<\/a> a group of LLMs focused on mathematics, Qwen2-Math, which \u201csurpass GPT-4o and Claude 3.5\u201d in this field.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Chinese company Kuaishou <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/chinese-kling-emerges-as-a-rival-to-sora\">opened<\/a> its AI model for video generation, Kling, to the public.<\/p>\n<p>In July, <a href=\"https:\/\/u1f987.com\/en\/news\/china-emerges-as-leader-in-ai-adoption-study-reveals\">researchers named<\/a> China a leader in the adoption of generative artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chinese AI models lag behind their American counterparts by six to nine months, though their applications are expected to develop much more rapidly.
