According to <a href=\"https:\/\/coinstats.app\/address\/0x1E227979f0b5BC691a70DEAed2e0F39a6F538FD5\/\">CoinStats<\/a>, the trader lost over 97% of their assets.<\/p>\n<p>In &#8220;address poisoning,&#8221; perpetrators deceive users into sending cryptocurrency to an incorrect address, which may resemble the legitimate one with similar starting and ending characters.<\/p>\n<p>The MetaMask team was the first to warn about this type of scam. Such attacks cannot be prevented, so users should carefully copy addresses from their transaction history.<\/p>\n<p>In a similar incident in August 2023, an unknown individual stole $55,000 in USDT from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The agency was transferring seized funds, which caught the criminal&#8217;s attention.<\/p>\n<p>The perpetrator noticed the initial test transaction and quickly created an address similar to the receiving one.
