We are taking steps to protect consumers from such fraud,&#8221; the agency&#8217;s statement reads.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the FCC, the number of such calls has surged in recent years, as the technologies can &#8220;mislead consumers by mimicking the voices of celebrities, political figures, and even family members.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>By implementing the bill, the regulator will provide US attorneys general with &#8220;new tools to prosecute the malefactors behind these nefarious robocalls and hold them accountable under the law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Regulation of such incidents will be applied in accordance with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991, which sets standards for political and marketing calls made without the recipient&#8217;s consent. <\/p>\n<p>The announcement followed a scandal involving the imitation of US President Joe Biden&#8217;s voice.
